"The 0. A." and the receipt was forwarded to the Registrar trough
the post without covering letter or explanation. In a letter dated
the 15th. October, 1913, the Deputy Commissioner acknowledged the
eceipt of a confidential letter of enquiry from the Registrar
and stated that he had received the sum of Rs. 165 j C by Loney
Order but had not received any further letter in con.ection there-
-with.

Alim Khan, when confronted with these adınitted
facte, gave the following explanation. Muhamed Akbar was notorious- -ly an enemy of his, prepared to go any length to compass his
ruin. Then Alim Vhan came, on the 17th. April, to the Lonej Order
Office, Muhamed Akbar on the spur of the moment devised an elaborate plot. He was admittedly standing at the counter, with the shroffs in close proximity, but by soms means he managed to
take and retain Alim Khan's money unnoticed. He asked that two application forms should be made out, and, while Alim Khan left
the office for a few minutes to speak to another clork, he prepar-
-ed two forged receipt forms which he handed to Alim Kuan. The application forms he retained in his personal possession instead of filing them. By the 14th. June Luhammed Akbar was aware that it was the intention of the Government to transfer him to the Supreme Court in the place of Alim Khan, and on that date he staped withi the date stamp of the 14th. June Alim Khan's original application for $100, and sent the equivalent to India, filling in and retaining a receipt in the name of the Official Administrator. Alim Khan's statement in this connection is difficult to follow -
there is a sugestion that Muhamed Akbar stamped the date on the application on the 17th. April, changing the die to the 14th. June and Muhamed Akbar's suggested subsequent intention is not clear. It seems nowever that, according to Alim Knan, Kuhamed Akbar sent the money on the 14th. June, because on that date he realised he would shortly be in the Registry and so would be able to recover and to destroy the forged receipts which were filed there. He foresaw that it would before long be discovered that the ña. 140.
